DFM-Alpha™
with Closed Loop Control

The DFM-Alpha™ is the world’s first online paint thickness instrument with integrated closed-loop control, built by DJH Designs to keep coil coating lines running inside specification without operator intervention. Rather than simply reporting a thickness reading, the DFM-Alpha continuously monitors the coating as it’s applied and uses onboard intelligence to fine-tune the coater automatically — holding the line steady on target without requiring expensive equipment modifications. A closed-loop-free counterpart, the DFM-Ultra, offers the same measurement precision for lines that only need monitoring and reporting.

At the core of the system is DJH’s patented Direct Measurement Technology, which uses laser ablation at a 170-micrometre measurement point to deliver accuracy better than ±0.2 micrometres with no recalibration needed across paint types, substrates, or colors — including textured and wrinkled coatings, where the DFM-Alpha characterizes peak-to-valley depth directly. Coating thickness from 3μm to over 100μm is tracked continuously, with an “INTENSE MEASURE” mode taking 40 precision readings across the first two metres of coil, and the system is built for extremely low maintenance with a typical service life of 20 years.
